Program Overview
At The MindShift Academy, we help young adults with learning differences prepare for meaningful work opportunities. Our structured program focuses on building the skills, confidence, and social strategies needed to succeed in a professional environment.
Participants engage in hands-on learning, coaching, and practice activities designed to create routines, develop self-awareness, and foster independence.
This program is designed for young adults who:
• Want to explore their strengths and career interests
• Need support developing social and workplace skills
• Are motivated to prepare for future employment opportunities
Participation Requirements:
• Commitment to learning: Engage in activities, assessments, and reflections to identify strengths, interests, and growth areas.
• Openness to feedback: Receive guidance from staff to develop new skills and strategies.
• Willingness to participate: Take part in structured exercises, role-playing, and practical skill-building tasks.
Program Structure & Timeline
Weeks 1–3: Foundation & Routine Building
Focus: Develop basic workplace skills, routines, and self-awareness.
• Practice daily routines (time management, attendance, greetings, professional attire)
• Role-play workplace scenarios
• Learn communication strategies (e.g., asking for help, interacting with peers or supervisors)
• Use visual supports such as checklists, social stories, and schedules
• Daily reflection with MindShift coaches
Skills Developed:
• Workplace etiquette and routine management
• Communication and interpersonal skills
• Self-regulation and coping strategies
• Problem-solving in structured settings
Weeks 4–6: Skill Application & Social Confidence
Focus: Build practical work skills and social confidence through structured exercises.
• Hands-on activities simulating common workplace tasks
• Collaboration exercises and peer interaction practice
• Guided practice with task completion and responsibility
• Reflection on strengths and areas for growth
Skills Developed:
• Task focus and accountability
• Teamwork and collaboration
• Adaptability to structured work settings
• Confidence in handling expectations and feedback
Weeks 7–8: Career Readiness & Independent Practice
Focus: Prepare for future employment and independent work experiences.
• Complete small projects independently with staff guidance
• Resume writing and professional portfolio development
• Review job search tools and strategies (social media, platforms, applications)
• Mock interviews and interview preparation
• Reflect on personal growth and set future goals
Program Completion:
• Certificate of Completion
• Portfolio including resume, reflection notes, and project work
• Optional reference letter from MindShift Academy staff
Skills Developed:
• Independent task management and responsibility
• Professional communication and social skills
• Resume building and interview readiness
• Confidence for future employment and career exploration
